I’ve been using a Wakemate for a couple of weeks now. Logged in at wakemate.com you get some statistics. You can also export logged data as a csv file. That’s what I did. I next imported it into NeoOffice and turned it into this diagram.
Does the Wakemate work? It certainly does. Sleep data gives you an insight into your sleep patterns. Many days we awaken feeling groggy although we think we slept through all night. Other times we think we only slept for an hour or so to find that although we woke up repeatedly we nevertheless had several long phases of deep sleep.
So Wakemate can actually help you better understand how you really sleep.
Of course tracking your sleep isn’t the Wakemates sole purpose. Wakemate, well, wakes you up when its data indicate you will wake up most easily. You set a 20 minute frame when you wish to wake up and Wakemate does the rest. If you happen not to be in light sleep it will wake you up at the end of the window you defined.
“Sleep less. Feel better.” that’s their motto. Can Wakemate deliver? If you are the person that can set an inner alarm clock as a number of people can, Wakemate can’t deliver on that promise. But for those people Wakemate is still interesting because of the insight they can get into their sleep pattern.
For all the others Wakemate really can do some good. If you wake up ten minutes earlier but feel less groggy because your alarm clock didn’t go off after you had just drifted back into deep sleep, that’s a win.
Wakemate won’t make you a better or more efficient sleeper but it can help you wake up more refreshed.
